Yumbutter is proud to fuel some super rad athletes who not only kick major butt on the field (or road, or mountain, or wherever they may be) but also embody the values that Yumbutter is built on. This week, we’ll be telling their stories and getting the inside scoop on what fuels their passion for what they do.
Katarina Marks – Triathlete
Meet Katarina! Katarina Marks has been a triathlete for two years and a competitive runner for 12 years so far. She competed in Cross-Country and Track in junior high and high school, and was an NCAA Division II runner for two years at San Diego Christian College, then for two years at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. After graduating in 2013 with an Exercise Science degree, she became a NCSF Personal Trainer, ACE Group Fitness Instructor, and an assistant cross-country and track coach at Fort Lewis College.
More than running: Katarina’s been a cross-country and track coach at the high school and college level for 5 years. She teaches many fitness classes including functional training, circuit, spin, and aqua fit. She even recently competed in a 24-hour mountain bike race! When she isn’t training, you can find her working as a fitness instructor, coaching, enjoying the beautiful Colorado outdoors, or spending time with her husband.
On her love of triathlons: Katarina started running triathlons in 2013, and after completing her first one, she fell in love with competing in triathlons. Each year, she keeps improving and setting new personal records. After completing her first XTERRA Triathlon and qualifying for nationals, she realized she had great potential, and wants to continue training, stepping outside her comfort zone, and reaching her goals. In 2015, she started reaching out to sponsors to see if they could help her out, since being a triathlete takes a lot of support!
What keeps her inspired: Her favorite quote for staying motivated through those long runs and triathlons is “Your talent is God’s gift to you, what you do with it, is your gift back to God.”
And a bonus Yumbutter recipe from Katarina!
Sunflower Protein Balls
1 full potion of Sunflower Yumbutter
2 tablespoons honey
2 cups oats
4 tablespoon coconut oil
1/4 cup granola (I used Purely Elizabeth granola)
1-2 scoops protein powder
Combine all ingredients together. If the mixture is too dry, add more coconut oil or honey. Take 2 tablespoons of the mixture, roll into a ball, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Then enjoy!
