Summer Road Trip Snacks & Playlist

There’s nothing quite like a quintessential summer road trip – windows down, friends or family by your side,  discovering the beauty of the scenery whizzing by. But ya know what pairs *perfectly* with obscure monuments and sketchy rest stop bathrooms? ROAD TRIP SNACKS AND A BANGIN’ PLAYLIST, THAT’S WHAT!

Now if you’re like me, when you hear road trip snacks, you might think “Pull n Peel Licorice and chips that come in a tube,” (no? just me?) but these are no ordinary junk-filled vending machine snacks. These are adventure fuel –  tasty and guaranteed to carry you through your days of exploration without the need to risk your stomach on the stale pretzels you found in the glove compartment. And in case you like some ambiance for your culinary journey, we have ya covered with our go-to summer road trip playlist. Buckle up, and join us for a little summer journey.

The Road Trip Snacks

The key to a satisfying road trip snacks stash is to cover the key road trip craving groups: protein, fruits and veggies, crunchy/salty, and sweet treats. Some ideas:

Jerky, grass fed beef sticks, or meat bars like Epic or Krave

Your favorite nuts or seeds

Nut butters, especially in a container that makes it easy to combine with items from other categories

Tuna or salmon in a can or pouch (wild caught or sustainable line-caught, please!)

Hard-boiled eggs

A really solid sandwich on a hearty, sprouted bread is hard to beat in a pinch. Skip the tomatoes to avoid soggy bread.

Fruits & Veggies

You can really get wild here. Grab whatever fruits and veggies you’re into, but the best options are those that don’t create any waste. You don’t want to find an apple core between your seats in two months. Some ideas to get you started:

Peeled oranges or clroad trip snacksementines

Diced avocados or homemade guacamole

Carrot sticks, celery, mini peppers, cherry tomatoes

Baked chickpeas

Air-popped popcorn with sea salt

Kale, beet, or sweet potato chips, with fun seasonings like ranch, rosemary, or salt and vinegar.

Rice or seed crackers

70% (or more) dark chocolate. It’s basically a necessity.

Your favorite bars (we like Ona, GoMacro, and Perfect Bars)

Homemade muffins or a heartier cookie, like these breakfast cookies

BALLZ. It’s hard to beat energy balls for a tasty, protein-and-healthy-fat packed snack. Just try to steer clear of any that are totally fat-based if you’re not bringing a cooler. We could give you lots of recipes, but go ahead and follow your own heart with this easy method from Food52.
