Go Love Yo’self! 5 Healthy Ways to Practice Self-Love on Valentine’s Day
February 10, 2017 by Kaitlyn Dvorachek
Let’s chat about self-love, something most of us could – and should – do more of.
No matter your relationship status, Valentine’s Day is often the epitome of “treat yo’self.” However, it comes just a month after many people are trying to commit to their health. #NewYearsResolutions
To combat this contradiction, we’ve come up with 5 healthy, easy ways to love yourself. Who says Valentine’s Day and being healthy are mutually exclusive? Not us.
1) A Nourishing Breakfast
We’ve all heard it a million times, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. Well, it turns out there’s some truth in that statement. It kick-starts your metabolism and reduces the temptation to binge on unhealthy snacks later in the day. A breakfast rich in protein, healthy fats, and fiber keeps you full and improves overall weight management.
While working out may not be an ideal “treat”, it doesn’t have to be dreadful!
You can reap a plethora of benefits from a yoga class of any difficulty. Treat yo’self and clear your mind, increase flexibility, and improve sleep with a yoga class this V-Day.

3) Dark Chocolate
Chocolate on Valentine’s Day. Real original, right? Dark chocolate, however, has a variety of health benefits. A few of these amazing benefits include improving your brain function, lowering your risk of cardiovascular disease, and being an incredible source of cancer-fighting antioxidants. When eaten in moderation, dark chocolate can be a guilt-free, tasty way to treat yo’self!
4) Write Yourself a Love Letter
When’s the last time you wrote down qualities you love about yourself? Use this opportunity for self-reflection and self-love. Additionally, you can look back at this message anytime you’re feeling down. This can be as formal or informal as you wish. Want to handwrite a full page letter to yourself? Awesome! Want to text yourself a quick self love note? That’s cool too! If you’re unsure of where to begin, Mind Body Green put together a great idea for cultivating self-love and growth.
5) Bubble Bath
Finally, wrap up your self-love day with a relaxing bubble bath. There’s a variety of benefits beyond the pure relaxation that baths provide, such as deep muscle relaxation and improved circulation. You can also add you favorite essential oils for an aromatherapeutic experience! Here are 3 DIY bath soak recipes to take your bath to the next level. Treat yo’self.
See? You really can stick to your wellness goals and also treat yo’self! Whether you’re deeply in love or flying solo, don’t forget about the most important person: YOU! Enjoy a nutritious breakfast, yoga, dark chocolate, write yourself love letter, and take a relaxing bath this Valentine’s Day – simply because you deserve it.
